Prayer to God

As if it were a minimalist composition, in which a musician manages to create an exquisite soundscape with only 3 notes, Guillermo Rubí presents his new exhibition “Prayer to God”. In it, three paintings masterfully placed in the space immerse us in the musical universe of the artist. On the gray painted walls, Rubí’s works, influenced by the T-shirt designs of his favorite bands, seem to float in space like a chord floats in a concert hall.

The stains and traces on the cotton of the paintings “I don’t know what you ketamine” or “20”, inspired by bands like “Future of the left” or “Nine inch nails” respectively, refer directly to the feeling of being at a festival or a concert, surrounded by sweat, dirt, beer and decibels.

Religious themes have been related to musical practice since ancient times. Examples are gospel, country, Gregorian chant or African ritual music. This same connection with the spiritual is present in this exhibition, in which hands in a position of prayer seem to pray for the inevitable plane crash that describes the scene of the work “At this velocity”.

“Prayer to god” is a tribute to the songs, the musicians and their audience; the main agents of the Eucharist of music. After all, there is not so much difference between wearing the t-shirt of your favorite band or a crucifix around your neck.
