AFTER PARTY

L21 Gallery participates in the second edition of Contemporary Art Now in Ibiza with the project “After Party”. A booth whose colours have been chosen by Fabio Viscogliosi (Oullins, France, 1965) in relation to his own pictorial palette, displays the work of several artists represented by the gallery: Nat Meade, Geran Knol, Mira Makai, Ben Edmunds, Simon Demeuter, Pixy Liao, Edu Carrillo, Jordi Ribes, Fátima de Juan, Hunter Potter, Marc Badia, Gao Hang, Daisy Dodd-Noble and Richard Woods.

The deep symbolism of the characters portrayed by Jordi Ribes and Geran Knol, the connection with nature in the paintings of Nat Meade, Fatima de Juan and Daisy Dodd-Noble, the dreamlike architectures of Marc Badia, the furniture made by Richard Woods and the colourful mythological creatures of Mira Makai, all recall echoes of the experiences of a psychedelic trip. A party in which shapes are constantly mutating, with textures, symbolism and colour as the undisputed highlights.

Symmetry and narrative prevail in the large-scale paintings by Hunter Potter and Edu Carrillo. Stories that oscillate between love and hate are depicted in their new paintings. For example, “Holding something to love you” and “Holding something to hurt you” explore the same action with different elements: one hand holds a flower, while the other holds a knife against an agitated red background. Gao Hang, on the other hand, composes a portrait with sharp profiles like a distorted reflection on a mirror…

The booth also features the different pictorial languages of Simon Demeuter and Ben Edmunds. While the former creates narratives filled with eroticism, choosing themes that relate to popular culture to represent his male characters, Ben Edmunds’ canvases bring us closer to the sea and adventure sports, taking into account the context of the island of Ibiza. Finally, in Pixy Liao’s photographs we find intimate scenes that explore the world of relationships from a perfect balance between critical perspective and sense of humour.
