For the new edition of ARCOlisbon, L21 proposes a booth featuring a collaborative space where represented artists Valerie Krause, Marc Badia and Jordi Ribes will coalesce with two artists from the gallery’s collaborative work.

The focal point of this booth revolves around Marc Badia’s (1984, Barcelona) central piece, a four meter painting that serves as both an inception, and a forecast. This artwork encapsulates the booth in an apocalyptic narrative, depicting a future scenario where nature reclaims its dominance, highlighting the decay and downfall of man-made structures. This work exists as prediction and as a warning for the resilience of nature and the ephemeral character of human creations.

Alongside Marc, we will feature Valerie Krause’s pieces (1976, Herdecke, Germany). These sculptures serve as space activators; the artist’s work, known for its hermetic quality, skillfully achieves the dual purpose of separating or uniting the space, offering an alternative perception of the environment.

Igor Jesus will be creating new pieces specifically for the fair. Igor’s work seamlessly blends technology and craftsmanship, incorporating elements of sound and photography. As a multidisciplinary artist, he will present his creations across various mediums.

All these artworks, together with the works by Jordi Ribes and Joyce Ho, will be integrated into a still image. The booth itself will remain free of furniture, presenting a clean and minimalist space. The displayed artworks will create an almost untouchable atmosphere. It is a space inviting enough for exploration but not for intervention.

To align with the modus operandi of L21, we opt to leave the walls unpainted, breaking away from the conventional aesthetics of the white cube. This intentional choice allows the artworks to define and conclude the space on their own terms, serving as both enhancers and activators.
